Vijay Kumar was born in Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu Ksatriya family. His father late Srinivas Karnik was a government officer. And, his mother’s name is Tarabai Karnik.

Vijay Kumar Karnik gathered 300 local women from a nearby village named Madhapar. With 100 Air Force personal and 300 women, base commander Vijay successfully managed to keep airbase functioning.

With the great victory, Pakistan Eastern Command surrendered with about 90,000 Pakistani prisoner of war.
