Shamnad Basheer was born on 14 Many 1976 into the family of Chikmagalur, Karnataka. He completed his schooling from the hometown. He was one of the bright students in his schooling time. Basheer went to the National Law School of India University in Bangalore for graduation.

Next, Shamnad Basheer went to Oxford University for further study. In India, he worked at different law firms of New Delhi. He worked on many IP matters and IFLR 1000 guide has rated him as the leading technology lawyer. Moreover, His thesis dealing with biotechnology and patent law in India was awarded the second prize in a writing contest held by the Standford University.

Shamnad Basheer was born and raised into the Chikamangaluru, Karnataka. He completed his primary and secondary education from the Laidlaw memorial school and St. Thomas Residential School. He was a very bright student of the school. After schooling, He did graduation in the law from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore.

After graduation, Shamnad Basheer joined to the Anand and Anand, a leading intellectual property firm in New Delhi. Basheer had worked on the various contentious and non-contentious entity IP matters. He became the head of the firm’s IT and Telecommunications Law Division of India. During the time, Shamnad Basheer was rated as the leading technology lawyer by the IFLR 1000 guide.

Basheer Shamnad did his post-graduation from the University of Oxford. Also, He completed the BCL (as a Shell Centenary Scholar) and M Phill with distinction. He came into the limelight after arguing against Swiss Drugmaker Novartis which was seeking a patent for the drug Glivec. Moreover, the other drugmakers were selling the generic form of the drug at a cheaper rate.

It was the first such academic intervention in the court of law in India. During the time, Shamnad Basheer also founded the IDIA especially to empower students from the lower socio-economic background to pursue a career in law. After establishing the IDIA, He had filed a PIL in Supreme court in which he brought up with the issues related to the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for entrance to National Law Schools.

He was also engaged with the case at Delhi High Court establishing a case for Common Law Admission Test for entrance to the National Law School. It was behalf of his organisation named P-PIL which is an informal coalition of lawyers and law students to further the cause of public interest through the instrumentality of the law.

Shamnad was also working as the Ministry of the Human Resource Development Chaired Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Science.
