Biography

Ritu Phogat was born and brought up into the middle-class family of village Balali. She has completed her initial education from the local school in her village. Ritu has completed her education till 10th standard and then dropped out in order to focus her career in wrestling.

Ritu Phogat was inspired to pursue her career in wresting from her father and sisters. She started receiving training under her father at the age of 8. Her father gave training for the wrestling in her village with a proper schedule and diet.

After lots of hard work and perfect training, Ritu Phogat started her career in the 48Kg freestyle category in 2011. Next, She made her debut at international with FILA Junior World Championship, Zagreb, Croatia. Ritu Phogat received a first gold medal at the 2016 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in Singapore.

In 2017, Ritu Phogat received a silver medal at World U-23 Wrestling Championship. Also, in 2019, Ritu made her debut in the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) against Na Hee Kim at ONE: Age of Dragons. She defeated Na Hee Kim in MMA and won her first debut.

In 2011, Ritu started her professional career as a wrestler in 48Kg freestyle. After that, She made her first international debut in 2014 by participating in the FILA Junior World Championship held in Zagreb, Croatia.

Wrestling career from 2016

In October 2016, Ritu Phogat participated in the Annual National Wrestling Championships. Moreover, She received her second consecutive title at the Wrestling Championship. She received a huge appreciation for her effort and skills in wrestling.

In November 2017, Phogat won the silver title in the World U-23 Wrestling Championship. Moreover, the competition was held in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The same year, Ritu Phogat participated in the 48 kg freestyle category of Asian Championship and received the bronze title.

According to Ritu, at the age of 18, She found MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) video on youtube and immediately decided to become a part of it. Also, She always had a dream to win the World Championship Belt for India. So in 2019, Ritu Phogat decided to make her debut in MMA.

So, Ritu Phogat left her family and started from scratch for the new profession. She got training in boxing, muay thai kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the Evolve MMA facility in Singapore. Ritu got perfect training of 9 months before she made her debut in MMA.

In November 2019, Ritu Phogat made her debut in MMA at ONE: Age of Dragons held in Beijing, China. Also, her first MMA fight was organized opposite to South Korean fighter Kim Nam Hee. She won her first debut match on 16 November 2019.

Ritu had stopped her opponent with 1 minute 23 seconds left in her the first round of the One: Age of Dragons. At her debut in MMA, She stated that ‘In MMA my goal is to become the first Indian World Champion’.
