After graduation, Priti worked as an intern at a Conservative Central Office. Next, she headed the press office of the Referendum Party. Again in 1997, she left the job and joined the Conservative Party and started working at a press office for William Huge.

Priti Patel was born and brought up into the Hindu family of London. She completed her schooling from the Watford Grammer School for Girls. After schooling, she studied Economics at Keele University. Despite her unsuccessful performance in the election, new party leader David Cameron offered a place on the ‘A-List’ of Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC).

In 2006, Priti became a PPC for the new constituency called ‘Witham’ in central Essex created after a boundary review. She received a majority votes in the election and assumed an office on 6th May 2010 as Member of Parliament (Witham).

In 2013, Priti Patel was promoted as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury. Next in 2015, Priti Patel made a victory at a general election and retained her seat as MP with 27,123 votes. The same year, she became a Minister of State for Employment.

In 2015-16, Priti Patel held the position as Secretary of State for International Development. In 2017, she became a news headline after it became known that she had meetings with Israeli governments, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Later, she submitted her resignation request and her position was taken over by Penny Mordaunt.

In 2019, Priti appointed as the Home Secretary in the new cabinet of Prime Minister Boris Johanson. She became headline when she brought a new points-based immigration system which will be affected from 1st January 2021.

  • Patel was criticized by political opponents for defending the tobacco and alcohol industry and for advocating their threatening the Republic of Irland food shortage during Brexit negotiation.
  • In 2017, Priti became a news headline after BBC released news that, Patel had held a meeting in Israel. It was also reported that, following the meetings, Patel had recommended that the Department for International Development give international aid money to field hospitals run by the Israeli army in Golden Heights.
