Pratap Sarangi was born into a middle-class poor family of Gopinathpur, Odisha, India. He did his schooling and graduation from the Balasore. Since childhood, He was always a spiritual seeker. Initially, He wanted to become a monk of the Ramakrishna Math, but monks of math have advised him to live with her widowed mother and to serve her.
After coming to the village, He associated with various social activities. He opened a school for the poor students named ‘Samar Kara Kendra’ under the Gana Shiksha Mandir Yojana in tribal villages in Balasore and Mayurbhanj district.
He had been elected as the Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2009, and in 2009 to 2014 from the Nilgiri constituency. Moreover, Pratap Chandra Sarangi also contested in the 2014 Lok Sabha Election from Balasore as the candidate for BJP. He lost that election.
In the 2019 Indian general election of Lok Sabha, He contested on Balasore Lok Sabha Constituency as a BJP candidate. He defeated BJD candidate Rabindra Kumar Jena by a margin of 12,956 votes. Currently, He is serving as Minister of State.
