Jyotiraditya Scindia is a famous Indian politician and a former member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He was a member of parliament from Guna constituency in Madhya Pradesh. After serving Indian National Congress for 18 years, he resigned from the party on 9th March 2020.

A well-known Indian politician, Jyotiraditya Scindia was born in Bombay, Maharashtra, India into royal Scindia family who once ruled in Gwalior. He did his schooling from two different schools including Campion School, Bhopal, India, and The Doon School, Dehradun.

After that, he completed his Graduation in Economics from Harvard University in 1993 and then M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2001. Moreover, Jyotiraditya Scindia was to follow in the footsteps of his father and hence after his father’s death, Jyotiraditya replaced his father in Congress.

Jyotiraditya Scindia belongs to a former royal Scindia family of Madhya Pradesh.
Maharaja Jivajirao Scindia was his grandfather who was the last Maharaja of the princely state of Gwalior. So his family still holds the title of Maharaja. His grandmother and Rajmata of Gwalior Vijayaraje Scindia started her politics with Indian Congress.
In 1957, she won Lok Sabha seat from Guna and then after 10 years serving in Congress, she joined Jana Sangh in 1967.
At the age of 26 years, Jyotiraditya’s father Madhav Rao Scindia became an MP. He was also in Jana Sangh but he got separated from the party after the emergency in 1977. Then in 1980, Madhav Rao contested on a Congress ticket and also became a Union Minister. In 2001, Madhav Rao Scindia died in a plane crash.

In addition, his mother Madhavi Raje Scindia was grand-daughter of a prince of Nepal, Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana. Moreover, he has one sister named Chitrangada Raje Scindia and she married the prince of Kashmir Vikramaditya Singh on 11 December 1987.

On 30 September 2001, Guna constituency fell vacant after the death of his father Madhavrao Scindia. On 18 December 2001, Jyotiraditya Scindia formally joined the Indian National Congress.
Jyotiraditya filed a nomination for the Guna constituency election on 19 January 2002. The result was declared on 24th February and fortunately, he won the election and defeated his nearest rival, Desh Raj Singh Yadav of BJP by a huge margin of 450,000 votes.
Then in May 2004, he was re-elected on that seat as a Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology. In 2009, Jyotiraditya was again re-elected for the 3rd time and became Minister of States for Commerce and Industry.
In November 2012, he was appointed as a Minister of States for Power in a cabinet reshuffle. Then in the 2014 general election, Jyotiraditya deferred Jaibhansingh Pawaiya of Bhartiya Janata Party and elected to 16th Lok Sabha.
In 2019, Jyotiraditya defeated by Krishna Pal Singh Yadav and lost the Guna seat in the Lok Sabha elections. After serving Indian National Congress for 18 years, he resigned from the party on 9th March 2020 and Joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 11th March 2020.

Jyotiraditya Scindia filed a legal claim against her aunts in the court for the property of his late father. He claimed himself the sole inheritor of 20,000 Crore property.
Jyotiraditya didn’t get the post of president of Madhya Pradesh Congress despite repeated demands and after that, there was a constant dispute between Kamal Nath and Scindia. Hence he resigned from his post in Congress and joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
