After earning a degree of doctorate, Dr Kafeel Khan started practising as an assistant professor in SIIMS, Gangtok, Sikkim. In 2016, He got permanent service at his hometown Gorakhpur, UP, India.
He was the lecturer of the department Paediatrics in Baba Raghav Das Medical College (BRD). Apart from a job in college, he also owns a private nursing home titled “Medispring Children Hospital” at Azad Chowk, Gorakh Pur.
He is also an author of the Manipal Manual of Clinical Pediatric for MBBS students. he also arranges free medical camps for the needy people around his districts and also distributes medicines free of costs.
Gorakhpur Hospital Incident
Dr Kafeel Khan’s name came into news headline after the “Gorakhpur Hospital Incident.” During his service on 10th August 2017 at medical college, 60 children died due to the shortage of oxygen supply.
According to media reports, Kafeel made all his efforts to save the lives of children by arranging cylinders his own. He became a hero overnight and got praised by people for his effort to save lives.
But after an investigation on the incident, the UP government has refused all the efforts and stated the supply cut off oxygen happened in a hospital due to pending bills. They also added, it was his responsibilities but he was not there and was practising at his private clinic at hometown.
FIR got registered on him and he got suspended from his job as a lecturer at BRD college. On 2nd September, he got arrested by the police and the court has issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
Later the year, Indian Medical Association along with doctors and activist came into a defence of him and requested a justice for him. After a long inquiry, he got released from the punishment as no evidence found against him.
Later in many interviews, Dr Kafeel Khan stated that he got made a scapegoat the government of Yogi Adityanath. He also called the incident a “Man-Made Massacre.”
Anti-CAA Protest at AMU
After the government has released a CAA Act, there were many protests happened across the country. Dr Kafeel Khan also became a part of it and delivered a hate speech at Aligarh Muslim University against CAA on 12th December 2019.
Next in January, UP Task Force arrested Dr Kafeel Khan from the Mumbai for his participation and delivering a speech at anti-CAA protest of AMU. Also, he got charged for promoting enmity between different religions.
On 1st February 2020, he sent to the Aligarh jail and then moved to Mathura Jail. Again, some activist demanded the release of Kafeel Khan on social media Later, he got bail from CJM court but wasn’t released for three days.
