Her debut novel, a supernatural thriller over Vajrayana Tantra Buddhism, Ishwar Jakhan Bandi’ was sold over 10,000+ copies just in a short span of six months and was declared as ‘2017 Kolkata Book Fair Bestseller’.

After that, her second novel ‘Narak Sanket’, which was also a thriller about Nazi Eugenics, was sold 12000+ copies in one year and became one of the most sold books in Bengali Literature. It has already been into the film. ‘Swastik Sanket’ a big-budget about to release movie by eminent production house Eskay Movies is based on this novel.

Famous Actor-MP Nusrat Jahan is playing a pivotal role. She has already signed to do multiple movies based on Debarati Mukhopadhyay’s novels.

In 2017, Debarati Mukhopadhyay wrote to the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) Regional office, pointing out that the film Dhananjay might be in contempt of court; the movie was based on the conviction of Dhananjoy Chatterjee, accused of the gruesome murder of Hetal Parekh, which took place in the year 1990. Mukhopadhyay’s objection received a sharp denial from filmmaker Arindam Sil.

In 2020, Debarati Mukhopadhyay claimed that the plot of the movie was copied from her book Diotima without giving any attributions. She filed a countersuit against the production house for plagiarism, copyright violation worth 50 Crores, she also filed a defamation suit against the scriptwriter of the film for humiliating her.
